Very affordable and simple to setup. Configuration as standalone SMB or
connection to an Active Directory is a snap! I've purchased personally
three in the last two years. Have not had a problem. They are fast,
quiet and stay cool with the awesome fan they have inside.

If you're familiar with these guys in west Omaha they are a local
reseller.

Subject: [olug] SMB NAS devices

Anybody got experience using a medium-sized NAS device for a small
business network? Care to recommend a product?

I need something that will store up to 5-8TB of data, preferably RAID6,
no larger than 1TB individual drives (striping speed), in a 2U chassis
(or 3U with a compelling reason). Access is probably a 70/30 split
of Linux (NFS) and Windows (CIFS), with both accessing the same
filesystems.
I'd like the option of using iSCSI down the road. I'd prefer something
that resembled an appliance so other admins here weren't tempted to turn
our file server into a general purpose compute server. I should be able
to do this for $5-10K.

I've only looked at Dell & PogoLinux so far. Dell has a gap right at
the size I'm looking at. Lots more to look at yet, though.
