I had a couple machines with that type of floppy setup.  There is some pin config that is special in the floppy drive.  The drives showed up just like any other fd0 devices.

I imagine IBM made one, but I don't have one for it, and it almost
assuredly wouldn't be bootable.  Since this is a work owned laptop I
can't really ask the boss to buy parts for it either.  :-)  The floppy
interface appears to be some kind of parallel port since it has a
printer/floppy graphic by it.  Other than that it's got the docking
port, and the PC card slots.

Maybe I'll e-mail the DeliLinux maintainer and ask if he has a floppy
install option.
