CPU load for RAID1 is negligible, has been for a long time. RAID10 is
blisteringly fast.

I would only do RAID 5 under certain conditions:

a) CPU is a fast $200-ish dual-core or quad-core - specifically the
E8400 or Q6600 or the equivalent

b) You have a real RAID card with a BBU
