I've not noticed any performance difference.

It's pretty common on those UP Xeon motherboards... and Dell Precision
desktops.

I know nothing about them other than they are available.

I have only ever dealt with IDE units.

The datasheet is here:

It states that they are SATA1, implying that they don't support AHCI. I
image it wouldn't be any different than connecting an older SATA non-NCQ HD.

BTW the datasheet states they are SLC.
