[olug] Odd IDE drive issues

Unfortunately this is an on-board PSU, so no replacing it without soldering another in place. Not really an issue at this point, since the DVR has been replaced (the system was still running; only when they tried to back up the data to CD/DVD did it fail to burn, then just quit seeing hard drives altogether).
Had it been a regular PC I could have gotten it running, but it was displaying a number of issues before it wiped its own drive. Those were noticed when watching the recorded video after it was rescued (failure to respond to movement, etc).

I ran the Harry Potter books through a spell checker; none of those spells should work.

an optical drive only uses significant power when spinning a disc or
recording...a HD is always spinning...

sounds like PSU issues...

is this a DVR appliance, or just a PC DVR?
is the PSU a seperate PCB?
burnt traces?
