Hardware: Dell 1950, dual quadcore 1.6Ghz, 8GB ram, (2) SAS 15K rpm drives
RAID1, NICs are 1GbE.
Network: 1GbE connection direct into Cisco 2960G switch to Juniper SSG550M
firewall that goes to core switch that goes to core router with 100Mb/100Mb
to internet, this particular internet connection typically has about
20-40Mbps traffic at peak hours.
QOS on core router

I use mainly SIP although I am liking IAX2 better in most cases. Phones are
Grandstream and softphones such as xlite and zoiper.

Trunks are Vitelity which our providers seem to have great peering with each
other, 20-25ms pings most of the time, not too shabby for Omaha to Dallas

Current max simultanious call count is about 25, with an increase to
approximatley 68 very soon. Also, I should note that all calls are recorded.

I've noticed some dropped calls at times, sometimes jitter even when on the
same network.
I would like to look into putting asterisk on its own hardware, yet still do
most administrative tasks via webgui(freepbx) but have the webgui (LAMP)on a
different machine, like a dell r200 with dual core and 2GB ram.

It seems like it is very possible to do this, i am not sure of the
implications or the actual nessecity to open this can of worms.

Thanks for your input, much appriciated,
Charles
