[olug] hd playback

Prob was w/ mplayer and the minipc (avail mem for video, I think). Thought I'd upgrade to F8, but the gpahical install hangs & textual never allows X to run, even post-install.

Might do diff distro, might re-install MythDora. Concerned that even if I alloc 64 or 128M mem to video, the 8M shared window will remain prob. ??

MBE currently driving display, so, until WAF goes double-digit negative, motivation to fix is "on-hold", pending some startling revelation or minor discovery.

You're not going to display high-def video over an svideo port. You need to
connect the PC through DVI or HDMI to achieve 1080p, svideo can only handle
480i. I would save the svideo port for connecting a standard-def device like
a DVD player.

On a related note, I currently have my HTPC connected using a VGA port, but
the refresh rate is somewhat suboptimal. I originally tried connecting it
with a DVI->HDMI cable, but even though the resolution was set correctly the
desktop being displayed went off the edges of the screen. Has anyone
successfully connected a linux HTPC through HDMI with full 1080p? I'm using
an NVIDIA 8500gt.
