You can tell the Identity of the WRT54g by:

1. Looking at the bottom of the router itself. The Model number on the unit
will tell you what version the router is.
WRT54G (no vN) = Version 1. Sveasoft Talasman has Issues, but
OpenWRT works great.
	WRT54G v2 through v4 = Linux
WRT54G v5 = VxWorks, but can be flashed to OpenWRT Micro with a bit
of software trickery.
WRT54G v5.5 though v7 = Black Box, no one knows for sure how to
flash these, different hardware.

	WRT54GL = WRT54G v4, A specially marked unit made for the Linux
community, Local Resellers won't carry them. Price is usually $20-$30 over
what the current WRT54G is selling for. I also have never heard or seen a
rebate for this model.

WRT54GS (no vN) = Version 1, Works Greate
	WRT54GS v2 - v3 = Works Greate
	WRT54GS v4 - ?? = I Don't know for sure about the v4, but v5 and up
are simular hardware to v6 WRT54G according to what I have reat so far.

2. By the FCC ID on the sticker on the Box. There is a table somewhere on
the Sveasoft http://sveasoft.com Forums website (can remember where) that
tells you by this what it is.

Hope that helped
