[olug] Debian Sound Problem

Two more ideas for you.

1. When you try to play sound, what device are you sending your audio to.
Some cards show up with both a digital and analog card. Also you may have
ended up with PulseAudio installed. I ran into this on a Ubuntu system.
This interesting program, inserts itself into all audio paths. Do the
following to check if it is unstalled.

	dpkg -l | grep pulse
		"lower case L"

This will list packages installed.

2. Next see if the ARTS daemon is running if you are trying to play sound
from within KDE. If not make sure it is not running. To do this:

	ps ax | grep arts

Hope that was some help.

I went into KDE and turned off the sound system, but still nothing. I
also noticed that there was no sound even if it was enabled under KDE.
So then I ran that dd command, but it gave the device busy error.
However, I got a live cd of Debian with GNOME, and the sound worked
great with that. Go figure. >:|
