This error sticks out a bit.
"Error: Cannot gain SYS_RAWIO capability.Is cdrecord
installed SUID root?"

As root run:
chmod u+s `which cdrecord`

This sets the sticky bit for cdrecord which might help with the error above.  No idea if that'll completely solve the
problem.
