Oh, wait. VMware.  Definitely the virtualized BIOS first.

Alternatively you can on numlock by pushing a button marked "Fn" and
another marked "NumLock" at the same time.  The "Fn" key is easy to
find, the "NumLock" key isn't.

Neal's complaint isn't a Windows thing... laptop keyboards suck.
