[olug] Looking for Open Source alternatives

Well that was fun, I hit reply in Thunderbird and the window didn't come
up, hit reply again, right as the window appeared with the send button
right above where reply was... I'm not fast enough on the cancel button
I guess.

Anyway... I'm only going to comment on what I've used.

Fedora Directory Server. OpenLDAP is downright caveman stuff compared to
what a modern LDAP dir can do. I'm running multimaster replication with
it, so far so good.

Depending on what you need, one of the open source monitoring tools like
nagios may provide what you want.
