[olug] ethernet bonding

I am trying to implement bonding on a SuSE 9.1 host running authoritative DNS so I want to minimize downtime.

I was reading docs and making preparations for ifcfg-bond0 and ifcfg-bond1 files. But the ifcfg-<MAC> file on the previously unused second interface does not show the UNIQUE= parameter but I see the bond interfaces in ifconfig -a.

I tried DHCP to generate the default stuff including UNIQUE= for the new second int. I do not have a DHCP server but I thought it would try and set down a UNIQUE= at the very least. I then assigned an available static and still no UNIQUE= but that is when the bond thing might have happened when network was restarted.

Did I just happen to stumble on to it or will there be network problems soon if I do not address this? I appreciate any pointers.
