There are some distributions aimed at the "salvage server" market.  Check
out "http://distrowatch.com/" and go to the search page.  From there,
check out some of the Firewall/router distros and see about adding
Samba/Apache/etc.

Or, check out "DSL" (Dang Small Linux) It has a really stripped down
bootable CD that brings up X11 and some simple apps including a graphical
web browser on an old laptop at work (P2-300 with 64MB RAM and 6GB HDD).
I believe DSL uses RPMs as its package manager, but I don't now if RedHat
RPMs will work with it out of the box.
