Running Knoppix 3.3 on a pc.

I've installed 2.6.3 kernel under /usr/src.

Seemed to install ok, didn't get any error messages.

Checked under /boot and see that it is there and added
the following under /etc/lilo.conf

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.22-xfs
        label=Linux
        initrd=/boot/initrd.gz
        read-only
#       restricted
#       alias=1

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.3
        label=Linux2.6
        initrd=/boot/initrd.gz
        read-only

Reran lilo and when I rebooted, I still get my old
kernel.

root at xanadu:~# uname -a

Linux xanadu 2.4.22-xfs #1 SMP Fr Okt 3 20:36:25 CEST
2003 i586 GNU/Linux

This is what my /etc/lilo.conf displays

root at xanadu:~# cat lilo_output
LILO version 22.5.8, Copyright (C) 1992-1998 Werner

Reading boot sector from /dev/hda
Using MENU secondary loader
Calling map_insert_data

Boot image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.22-xfs
Mapping RAM disk /boot/initrd.gz
Added Linux *

Boot image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.3
Mapping RAM disk /boot/initrd.gz
Added Linux2.6

Skipping /vmlinuz.old
Writing boot sector.
/boot/boot.0300 exists - no boot sector backup copy
made.

Did some googling and seems to be an error with
initrd? Not familiar with what initrd does?

How do I create a initrd to be used by 2.6 kernel?

thanks

-Chris
