[olug] mystifying cable modem problem

Have you tried a different PC/device connected into your cable modem?
To present a different ethernet MAC address. I have seen problems similar
to these with problems on Cox's end. Problems have been attributed to
their provisioning/routing not releasing MAC's etc...... You could ask
them(if you have not already) to remove access for your cable modem to the
cox network and then re-add it........
