That worked as for getting gcc on the machine.
Now to try to install the program again and see what happens.

Are you on a network with this machine.

Type the following:

apt-get update

apt-get install gcc

Knoppix uses Debians package manager apt-get and that
should install it.

Read the man pages for more info on apt-get

type:

man apt-get
