One of the discussions at the OLUG meeting [www.olug.org] last Tuesday
night was about current & upcoming events in the local area, and what
Infragard was all about. Since this came accross my path late this week I
thought I would pass it along.

David Elfering sent to the SANSUG mailing list an invitation to the next
Infragard meeting (also included below); so I took the opportunity to ask
him what it was all about.

David Elfering's reply to what is Infragard:
Infragard is partially an attempt by the FBI to get better information
from private industry, and partially a semi-directed group of some pretty
good people to make security better. Its membership is limited to those in
what the government calls "critical sectors" such as transportation,
utilities, etc. I've jumped on board because its not commercially
oriented like SANS has become, though you always have to be careful when
the government says its here to help :)
I was elected president of the local chapter, so I'm trying to hold open
meetings on topics of interest to both the more technically inclined as
well as the general executive squads.
come on out, have a gyro and some baklava :)

Subject: [sansug] 05/15 Security Meeting

On May 15 there will be an open Information Security Meeting organized by
the Omaha Infragard executive board. Anyone interested is invited, but
there is a limit of 30 seats so RSVP quick!

Time: 12PM to 2PM (approx)

Subjects:
Hour One: Security leadership. A great talk on security leadership by
Mick Atteberry of Can Agra & Blaine Burnham. While they'd never say it,
these two gents have probably forgotten more about security than most of
us will hope to learn. Come and gather their unique insights into how
security can be led and prosper in your organization.

Hour Two: Advanced security architectures by Scott Walker of Accuvant.
Scott is an experienced, battle hardened security guy who wants to talk a
little about what he sees on the front lines while installing customer
sites. This will be based on his experiences as an Accuvant consultant,
but will a tech talk, not a sales pitch.

If time is tight please at least plan on coming for the first hour!

Place:
Peter Kiewit Institute, Room 279
1110 South 67th Street
Omaha, NE 68182-0694
(Note: Email me if you need further directions)

Lunch is Free!:
Catered by Katies Greek Restaurant, includes a Gyro sandwich, Greek
potatos, Soda and a piece of Baklava. Lunch is underwritten by Accuvant a
security firm I've done some business with (and a pretty good bunch of
folks in my experience).

RSVP:
There are a max of 30 seats for this meeting. PLEASE RSVP as soon as
possible to Dyann Bradbury at dbradbury at csiweb.com

Please feel free to forward this email to others in the Omaha, Lincoln
area you think might be interested.
