To get the ^M in the substitution string you can also just press Ctrl v and
then hit the return key.

GETTING RID OF ^M

How to get rid of ^M
in text files .

tr -d '^M' <inputfile >outputfile

But how to get this
'^M' in the command
line:

Keep CTRL pressed
and then press v and m
