[olug] Unix Tip: I SED BLANK

While I have been quiet on the topic, I feel it is time to chime in:
This list is for the benefit of OLUG members. We do things to help
each other as well as asking for help for ourselves. I think of this as
a bit of a democracy and from what I have seen in the last 2 years is
that the majority usually sets things. Whilst I think that another list
for tips could be helpful, the decision for that would be the for the
group AND the person who has to setup and take care of issues that it
would present on his system, Bryan. Causing someone to do a lot of work
to setup another Listserv and maintain it just because someone does not
want to setup a filter on their system seems absurd.

So, if the majority of the individuals on the list do not want the
tips, then Bryan can unsubscribe with perhaps a link to them so that the
ones of us who are not as Linux literate as others can sign up
ourselves. Or if the group decides that another list is appropriate,
AND Bryan does not mind then we can go that route. Ultimately folks,
the majority sets this I believe.

So, Bryan, if you want to setup something to record the opinions on the
olug website to put an end to this discussion so that the list can move
on to more "helpful" topics, I think that that would be the best
solution at this time. Any arguments for or against that idea?
I may get flamed for this but life goes on. Just my opinion...

Maybe we should consider the idea of creating a new mailing list,
olug-tips@ or something along that line, for this use. We could
subscribe that list to the Unix Tip's mailing list, and we could
encourage OLUG users to send little tips, tricks, and similar things
to
the list.

I think this would be really helpful, and I know that, as Mr. Walter
mentioned above, there are some extremely bright people on this
mailing
list. Having them send random tips and tricks regularly would be a
great way to let new users in on some of the things that normally only
experience can teach.
