[olug] Suse 9.0 Pro ISOs on FTP server

When Cox quit using excite and managed the network themselves all outbound
maximum rates on cable modems for business where dropped to a max of 384K.
The 512K was removed by Cox to make things standardized.
That is what I was told by a field tech.

If you are running a fiber connection though then you can get a higher
outbound/upstream pipe.

Hi Thom,

Thanks for your help. I'm still puzzling over this.
I'm using Mandrake (still on 9.1) with proftpd.
I think we have 512KB/s upstream (cox/business),
but in case we only have 256KB/s upstream,
I will temporarily cut connections from 3 to 2,
and reduce transfer rate from 100KB/s to 90KB/s.
(In case only two valid digits).

I thought 3*100KB would keep both FTPers and work
happy. But if they went from 512 to 256 (cheaper)
and didn't tell me (possible) than I better make
it only 2*100KB and 56KB for work, any less and I
might get complaints. I'll try to keep it up to
100K per user if I can, that's generally what I get
at most FTP sites; some more, some less, of course.

I will try another change to the proftp.conf file,
let's see how it works now.
