Have you tried Nautilus[1]?

It isn't exactly the most lightweight file manager/browser (although,
neither is Konqueror), but it's probably the most powerful and easy to
use that I've found.

It was originally developed by Eazel, Inc., a company formed by a group
of intelligent techies, and former Apple UI guys.
