[olug] RH 7.3 froze up?!?!!?!

Ok, the laptop was running RH 7.2 until Installfest, where I got a copy of the install CD's and fought through the upgrade. The specific kernel version I do not know, nor if I am running the crossover plugin.

Yes, I do have network connectivity to the laptop, and still have good link lights and traffic even though the GUI is frozen up. Never thought of telnetting to it though; never even thought I could.

The link Chris Miller sent along (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/22137) seems similar, but does not have a good answer (yet).

Now, I was (and still am) having a sound issue, which developed when I upgraded to the new version of RH. I get a window that pops up & says
“Informational – artsmessage”
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver
device/dev/dsp can't be opened (no such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device

So, I just booted the laptop to RH and all is fine so far.... nice and frustrating. Any pointers to fix the sound problem & tshoot the lockup issue would be appreciated... I will purchase the first round of shots next time! lol
