[olug] checkinstall

I've discovered a little utility that purports to help bridge the gap
between using packages (like RPMS) and compiling from source: checkinstall
(http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/). Basically, when building
from source you replace the "make install" phase with a call to
"checkinstall", which generates a package that can then be used for
installation/uninstallation on this or similar machines. If for nothing
else then giving me an automated way to uninstall, it seems worth it.
Theoretically it's also supposed to help with dependency management (as in
the packager will know about things installed from source).

Anyone had any experience with this utility? Care to comment about it?
