What do you want to do on the system?
If you have installed and wanted to run the GUI you type in startx.
If you want to create C or C++ programs you would have needed to load the
development tools.
If you want to create Java, that is included with Redhat 7.2, I would have
to check if it is included with Mandrake 8.1.
You can type in ls -l to get a directory of files in your current diretory.
If you have had a UNIX course and used vi or pico in class, they should be
available to create and edit text files.
You can ping another system on your network if you have the Linux system
networked and make sure that there is a good connection.

I teach UNIX at IWCC with Linux.
I also use UNIX and Linux at work.

Tell the list what you want to do with the system and we will guide you on
your way.

See you next post.
