Well, I've got extensive experience with Lotus Notes, and I won't lie, I'm
biased towards it for groupware functions. It was IIRC the first
"groupware" and IMO it's by far the best. It's not too tough to admin, and
setup ..... once you understand how Notes works. It's vocabulary is a bit
different than other software's I've used but it makes sense once it's been
explained. Functionality-wise it's EXTREMELY versatile. Everything you
talked about wanting to do is built in, and would be a breeze to implement.
Given everything you just talked about you could probably set the whole
thing up in a weekend. However (didn't you just know there had to be one),
Notes isn't cheap. I don't know what the domino server, and client
licenses are going for these days, but it would be at least as expensive as
Exchange. It would also be about 10 times more stable, infinitely more
scalable, and versatile.

You can also run the Domino server on a Linux box (obligatory Linux plug).

I would be happy to talk to you more about it offline if you wish. (or
online if anyone else is interested.)

<snip>

So my final question is (drum roll please):

What have members of OLUG used for groupware suites, how easy were they
to setup and maintain, and how functional were they (ie user interface
and suitable features)?

Thanks
Eric Penne
