[olug] Eth0 delaying (Fail) continued

Tom,
The delaying .... failed message ....
I get this same message on my laptop.. The reason being is that I have a
pcmcia card and the card hasn't been init'd yet. When it is init'd,
slightly later in the boot script, it goes on line.

For the rest of this machine CAUTION(IANALG - I Am Not A Linux Guru)
I would guess that it is delaying because it's not getting a reply that it
likes from the DHCP server. My suggestion is this:
Boot up in whatever OS you are using for email and get the IP address that
you have been assigned by your DCHP server. Then shutdown that machine and
enter that IP info into your Linux box (tell it your static and not dhcp)
If the card comes up correctly then it is a DHCP Server -> Client issue.

Remember to shutdown the machine you are "stealing" the ip info from: you
can't have two machines using the same IP at the same time. The IP info you
steal will remain good until the DHCP time window closes. If this works
then we now know its a dhcp software config thing and not a hardware one.

let us know.

-jeff
