[olug] How to connect to your machine remotely with COX at home

if you are interested in accessing your @home machine from a remote location
but are afraid that you won't be able to because of the nature of DHCP
(changing your ip address once and a while) the solution is to use your cox
hostname (cx number) and your domain name. Example:

I'm at work, I want to ssh into my machine at home to look at some homework.
  From my work machine I type:
ssh cxXXXXX-a.omhan1.ne.home.com
rather than the common way to do it (by ip address)
ssh 24.22.xx.xx

Note that cxXXXXX-a is the hostname (aka computer name) cox assigns you to
set your pc up dhcp and "omhan1.ne.home.com" is the domain of your region in
omaha. As far as I can see, the domains in omaha are broken up as follows:
omhan1.ne.home.com = north region
omhas1.ne.home.com = south region
blvue1.ne.home.com = bellevue (including papio and lavista)
elkhn1.ne.home.com = northwest region (including elkhorn)
omhaw1.ne.home.com = west region
cnbfs1.ia.home.com = guess

this might help some of you out if you notice your ip changing all the time.
  Personally, mine hadn't changed in an entire year but I hear rumors that
cox is getting more hardware in some of their regions and this could mean a
reassignment of certain IP's.
