[olug] Cox is demanding DHCP

If you read the ifup script (/etc/sysconfig/ifup, which is the same as
/sbin/ifup), you'll find that uninstalling pump, making sure that dhcpcd
is installed, and and making the changes to
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 that David suggested is
sufficient get your system to properly send its name to the DHCP
server. The ifup script looks for pump first, then dhcpcd, then other
possible DHCP clients (depending on distro) when bringing the interface
up. As you pointed out, pump does not communicate the hostname to the
DHCP server correctly whereas dhcpcd does. I don't know why Red Hat
(and Mandrake and probably most other RH-based distros) have chosen pump
as the preferred DHCP client in the ifup script.

Enjoy,

Mark
