Either OpenBSD or Linux will work fine in that situation.  But be aware
that if you need more advanced router capabilities than just NAT then
OpenBSD won't fit the bill - afaik Linux is the only free unix-type OS
that understands policy routing and QoS.  But since you're just getting
into routers you probably don't know what those are; thus you won't be
using them and OpenBSD will work fine :)

Linux will work fine.  Hell, almost all modern operating systems will work
fine!  There are even small and relatively cheap network appliance you can
get locally to do that job...
