I've used redir for things like this before with good luck. I run it like
this:

redir 192.168.1.205 8080 80 &

I have this starting from rc.local on a redHat system to accept incomming
connections on port 8080, then redirecting them internally to 192.168.1.205 on
port 80.

redir can also be run from inetd, but I prefer running it as a daemon.

I'd like to have requests to my external IP (port 80) forwarded to an internal

IP (port 80). Do I do this with ifconfig? Or what?
