You don't need to reboot your machine, even if you use linuxconf. Just
type 'ifconfig' and 'route' at a shell prompt to make sure the proper
interfaces are configured and you're good to go.

If you tell them you're using linux, try to get them to give you a static
ip, it may take some work, but sometimes cox's ips are changed and you'll
need to use dhcp to get a new one. I personally don't have a static ip,
and mine has never changed, but i've heard of people who have had them
changed.
