Yep: connecting from Linux to HP-UX.  I think NetBSD as well, but it's
been a while since I've powered up my sparcstation.

You need to either:
a) tell the admin to add either 'linux' or 'xterm-color' to the equivalent
   of the termcap
b) what I did: explicitly set TERM to vt100 or xterm in .profile (or
   .bash_profile, whichever is relevant)

The latter is the easiest, obviously.
