[OLUG] Hung Process - Getting ugly

Okay, here's a problem I'm having. Seems ever since I upgraded to 2.2*
kernels, I get a LOT of processes getting stuck in "uninterruptible sleep"
state ('D' via ps). Docs say this is due to the process waiting on
hardware - which is odd, because I've straced the programs that tend to
get stuck and can't find anything in common with them. Sometimes they
hang on open (which I guess I might under stand), sometimes they hang out
close, or write, or read... or you get the idea. Just about any call.
Among those that have froze up lately, there's postfix, smash, telnet,
ftp, and sendmail.

Now, this problem doesn't show up under 2.0.x kernels, nor in the new
2.3.x kernels. Can't upgrade to 2.3.x right now because it breaks other
things ;), so I'm stuck with 2.2.whatever.

Anybody else have this problem? Any pointers? Suggestions? Maybe a
version of Doom that'll kill even these pesky processes =)

Thanx tons,
