[OLUG] Kernel Compile Problems (2.2.13) - RH 6.1

You dont need to recompile your kernel to get the parrallel port to work, you
simply need to load the apprpriate modules, the errors you are gettting is when the
init scripts look in the module configuration file for modules to load (
/etc/conf.modules ) It see's some modules you have not built ( or installed ) I
would suggest to you to simply revert back to the default RH 6.1 kernel and load
the appropriate modules to get your parralel port to work. here is a hint on the
line you will need to add to /etc/conf.modules :
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
The reason I suggest you go back to the redhat kernel is simply the fact that EVERY
module / configuration work, and the fact that the amount of performance increase
you get when you strip down the kernel to bare necesities are very marginal to the
normal everyday desktop user. Personally, I think its just not worth the extra
effort anymore, unless your system is specialized to the point where you know
exactly what it will spend its life doing. e.g. its a Server of some-sort and it
does blah, and thats all it will ever do... etc...
