please for the love of God could someone put up a forum.

 

The mail list works but it doesn't have a centralized thread topic structure
that I feel is needed.

 

You can RSS enable it and email junkies can subscribe to topics if they want

I threw up a drupal site @ http://colo.olug.org

Create your accounts and I will give access. The only module I have
enable other than the default ones is the openid auth provider.
